Its name means old mountain, it is one of the 7 wonders of the world and declared a World Heritage Site. The main destination for anyone arriving in Peru.
It was an Inka political, religious and administrative center, which included Andean Temples, houses and water channels.
Built in the first half of the 15th century Machu Picchu is divisia in two large areas: The agricultural area that includes a vast network of artificial terraces, and the urban area formed by different buildings and squares in which the temple of the Sun, of the Three Windows stands out , of the Condor and the main temple.
Its majestic architecture includes 140 structures, located at an average height of 2450 m asl its scientific discovery is attributed to the researcher Hiram Bingham who was in search of the last Inca capital of Vilcabamba.

Machu Picchu was declared a Historic Shrine in 1981.
